The Ugly Pumpkin and More Apples

We didn’t do a whole lot for the letter U, but we did read one of my favorite fall books, The Ugly Pumpkin by Dave Horowitz.

The ugly pumpkin is so sad because nobody will pick him from the pumpkin patch.  Everyone favors the perfectly round pumpkins, and not even hitch-hiking or begging will work.

But after Halloween has come and gone, he stumbles upon a garden full of squash and realizes something:

“Oh my gosh, I’m a squash!”

They’re laughing, not falling asleep, I swear.

We also discovered that an upside-down U looks like an umbrella (or a rainbow).

That’s about it for the letter U, but the rest of Gommy’s apples were ready so we picked the mother lode and STILL didn’t get them all.  I’ve never seen so many apples.  This tree is incredible!
